Real Classic

Oct 01 2023
Magazine

RealClassic magazine features the very best British motorcycles from all eras, plus charismatic Continental machines (and the odd Japanese classics crops up occasionally, too). Long term classic riders will recognise many of the members of the RC team, which includes authors, historians and journalists like Steve Wilson, Dave Minton, Matt Vale, Odgie, Jacqueline 'PUB' Bickerstaff, Rowena Hoseason and editor Frank Westworth -- but the magazine's key feature is that it is firmly grounded in the real world. Our articles are written by real life riders and reflect far more than a simple road test ever can. We're never scared of getting grubby in The Shed (and we even admit it when things go horribly wrong!)

FROM THE FRONT

Baby Pendine, Breaking Records! • Cast your mind back a decade, to 2013, when Alan Cathcart went record-breaking with a Brough Superior. He tells the tale…

BROUGH JUNIOR: BABY PENDINE TECHNICAL

INCOMING! • RC readers write, rant and rattle on… Summat to say? Send your comments, hints, tips, tales of woe and derring-don’t to: RCHQ@RealClassic.net

MORE TRIUMPHS REQUIRED…

LIVING with LIGHTWEIGHTS • Our quest for a trim and nimble motorcycle with classic credentials continues. Rowena Hoseason considers the modern AJS range - and talks to actual owners who’ve bought these bikes…

THINKING OF BUYING

That's DANDY! • Continuing our quest for a British lightweight with classic credentials we give you… BSA’s best effort. Possibly. Steve Fairchild was seduced by an eBay bargain…

One Tasty Tiger • Almost the last; almost certainly the best. Frank Westworth renews his acquaintance with a 1973 Daytona

CLASSIC WORKHORSE • Dave Simmons rides an unusual Matchless; a machine originally supplied to the Home Office…

Riding Life • A little while back we asked how many bikes an active motorcyclist might own in half a century. Derek Reynolds started with a FrancisBarnett (which worked) and ended up with a Moto Guzzi Le Mans (which doesn’t)

COSMIC COMET • When a seized single-cylinder Vincent engine arrived in Peter Brown’s workshop it became the perfect platform for him to develop a galaxy-spanning, 21st century Comet…

MUTABLE MABSA • The only problem with running a pre-unit BSA rolling chassis powered by a mighty Matchless motor is that both combined are entirely too massive to be truly competitive on the track. Odgie starts to simplify and add lightness…

PUB TALK • PUB has to don sackcloth and ashes for a previous mistake, but has comments on another past issue to make too…

Ollie's ODDJOBS • Here comes the Zundapp. Ollie provides another alternative…

TALES FROM THE SHED • Frank’s been banging on about his Bullet, and indeed banging (loudly) around the place with it. Is it what he hoped for?
